We were fortunate to have Meghan Zimmerman join us once again as a summer intern at Records Management. Meghan joined us as a volunteer in her junior year of high school and worked with us under the Summer Youth Employment program for the past two summers.
This summer Meghan kicked off her summer experience by joining the Mapping Charleston team and helped us bring the grant project to a close. She recorded and reviewed metadata, photographed maps for use on our PastPerfect site, and assisted greatly with preparations for our City Employee Open House to celebrate the end of the project. Meghan researched and wrote a blog post on Hampton Park. Her interest in writing the post came out of an assignment to select images of the park for a Throwback Thursday post for the City’s Communication team on the City’s Instagram page. Over the course of her time with the division, Meghan processed several archival collections, learned about records digitization, and conducted research across our holdings.
Meghan graduated from Wando High School and is now in her first year at George Washington University. While in high school, Meghan participated in Model UN for three years, served on the yearbook staff (winning third place Writing Portfolio and Theme Story at the 2025 Southern Interscholastic Press Association, and served as a volunteer at the Roper Saint Francis Hospital in Mount Pleasant. She was also named a 2025 “Outstanding Social Studies Student.”
Meghan brought so much curiosity and enthusiasm to the division, and we are excited for the next step in her academic journey. We wish Meghan all the best!
